Switching Between Client Organizations

Once you've been invited into one or more client organizations, an org switcher appears in the SDX Desktop sidebar. It has two modes — and switching between them re-scopes the entire app.

Consultant Overview

This is the default view when you're not actively working in a client org.

  • Shows a consolidated KPI view across every client you have access to.
  • Settings, profile, and emission factors are not scoped to any one client (and are hidden in this mode — those are per-client concerns).
  • Use this when you want a portfolio-of-portfolios view: which clients are off-track, where the next compliance deadline is, where data quality is dropping.

Working inside a specific client org

When you switch into a client, the entire interface re-scopes:

  • Properties, meters, and reports show only that client's portfolio.
  • Org profile, emission factors, and goals are the client's settings — what you change here changes their setup.
  • Permissions apply at the access level that client granted you (read-only / operate / full). See Access levels.
  • Every change is logged as "performed by you on behalf of [client]." See the audit log.

A toast confirms the switch. Reports and dashboards refresh automatically.

Switching back

To return to the multi-client view, open the switcher and choose Consultant Overview. Same toast, same refresh.

A few practical notes

  • Browser tabs share account state. If you switch orgs in one tab, other tabs of the same browser session see the same active org on next refresh. Open separate browser profiles if you need to work in two clients side-by-side.
  • API keys belong to the org you're acting in. A key generated while acting on behalf of Client A only works for Client A's data — even though you created it.
  • Read-only access still appears in the switcher. Being able to switch in and being able to change anything are two different permissions.
